When The Simpsons first visited Springfield Gorge in season two's "Bart the Daredevil," it was for a genuinely heartwarming story about the complicated relationship between Bart and Homer. Much of "The Simpsons Guy" was boring, but the echo of the much earlier, much more poignant Simpsons episode was a little disheartening - if only as a reminder of how far The Simpsons has fallen. Homer stands in for the chicken, in a long, bloody fight that turns the characters into superheroes and takes them into outer space, before returning back to Earth to riff on Homer's failed jump and repeated tumbles down the canyon wall. "The Simpsons Guy" ends with a remix that blends one iconic moment from each show: Peter's seemingly endless series of fights with a giant chicken, and Homer's ill-fated jump across Springfield Gorge. (Whatever truth there is to those complaints, "The Simpsons Guy" is Exhibit A.) Family Guy is a dumber, crasser rip-off of The Simpsons The Simpsons is a soulless, long-in-the-tooth version of the innovative show it used to be. It all builds to a scene in which Homer and Peter turn on each other, parroting the most common complaints about each other's shows. This is where a cynical writer might suggest that the scene in question was revealed early because Fox knew it would drum up additional controversy, driving more attention to their big crossover episode. To be fair, that seemingly pointless lack of taste may have been the point a clip of the scene was revealed months ago, leading to an inevitable condemnation from the Parents Television Council. As expected, the gag wasn't nearly funny enough to justify how glib or gross it was. The edgiest moment comes when Stewie, attempting to emulate one of Bart's prank phone calls to Moe's Tavern, says, "Your sister's being raped!" and hangs up. (Well, almost everybody Family Guy doesn't have much use for Lois, so she and Marge are basically pushed aside for the episode.) From there, everybody splits up to repeat the same antics and catch phrases you've seen before. The Griffins stumble into Springfield, where each character is paired off with their rough analogue: Peter and Homer, Lois and Marge, Stewie and Bart, Meg and Lisa, Chris and Maggie, Brian and Santa's Little Helper. It also anticipates a blogger backlash that never really happened, as a bunch of straw-man feminists run the Griffins out of Quahog for drawing a sexist comic that also makes light of spousal abuse. "The Simpsons Guy" opens, inevitably, by mocking the idea of crossover as a pathetic, headline-grabbing stunt by a couple of sell-outs. Though the majority of the episode took place in Springfield, this isn't quite a crossover it's an extra-long Family Guy episode in which the Simpsons appear as versions of themselves, warped through a Family Guy lens. The dominant flavor of "The Simpsons Guy" is Family Guy. More than anything, "The Simpsons Guy" was lazy - a fundamentally misguided attempt to make two totally different tastes cohere, like a tuna-and-peanut-butter sandwich. The first modern oil well was built and used in Titusville, Pennsylvania, in 1859, over 150 years prior to the Marcellus Shale oil rush. Drake's biggest setback occurred on Octowhen the first oil well fire was started by 'Uncle Billy,' who went to inspect the oil in the vat with an open lamp, setting the gases alight. ![]() ![]() Lost 99 per cent faith in this project, but part of me hopes that this wasn't a scam and that it will be completed one day. Also worth keeping in mind is the slew of upcoming survival games due out this year, as there's a fair few with great potential. "While we can't speak to the nature of specific projects that have been approved or declined, we're constantly working on improving our vetting process for creators and we are grateful for the feedback that folks like you provide."Ī clearly despondent Unicornz added: "This game has kinda ruined backing projects/Early Access games on Steam for me. We have a dedicated Integrity Team that monitors our system and reviews reports that we receive from our community. ![]() "When we find that people are abusing the system or the trust of others, we do not hesitate to suspend their account or restrict certain account privileges, like launching another project. "We expect all members of the Kickstarter community to act with honesty and openness," Unicornz was told. Unicornz asked Kickstarter for a refund, but it doesn't sound like the crowdfunding company will part with any cash. In a post on The Stomping Land forum he said "I am thoroughly regretting it". One, "Unicornz", pledged $90 to The Stomping Land. This after the game was pulled from Steam back in September 2014 following months of silence.ĭisgruntled Kickstarter backers, who collectively pledged $114,060 to the project, have reacted in anger. While "Jig" appears to have done a runner, The Stomping Land remains up for sale on Steam as an Early Access title that costs £18.99. Now, Konstantinov has left the project, signing on to work on Beasts of Prey, another dinosaur sandbox survival game. "If this silence continues I will stop my participation in TSL and start taking the necessary measures to cover my expenses (sell the models for example)." Not to mention the fact that Jig owes me the money for the latest model, he's put me in a very difficult situation because now I will have to pay our texture artist for his work from my own pocket. I don't know, probably he has some serious reasons to ignore me (and whole community) but to my mind there are no excuses for such behaviour. I've sent him five messages and haven't got any single reply. "More than a month has passed since the day when I received the last reply from Jig. "I'm sad to say this but I have to temporarily freeze all my work for TLS project," he wrote. In a post on The Stomping Land forum (thanks, PC Gamer), Konstantinov claimed Fundora had ignored his repeated attempts at contact. In January freelance 3D character artist Vlad Konstantinov announced he had temporarily stopped working on the game following the departure of its creator Alex "Jig" Fundora, who hails from Buffalo, New York, but has lived in South Florida for most of his life. The Stomping Land was a reasonably high-profile splash on Kickstarter in May 2013, where it raised nearly six times its $20K goal. ![]() It appears that The Stomping Land, a multiplayer survival game about dinosaurs that raised over $100,000 on Kickstarter, is finally dead. ![]() |
